Tim Heidecker

& THE VERY GOOD BAND - February 7 at Union Transfer

The concert opened with a set of new material from the band’s latest album, Slipping Away, released in 2024. The energy was immediately heightened by the comedic stylings of supporting act, DJ Douggpound, who brought his unique brand of humor to the stage; blending stand-up with live DJ equipment and sound effects. His performance took an unexpected turn when he unveiled his mischievous alter ego—himself, donning a mask—to deliver a complimentary round of jokes, much to the crowd's delight.

The atmosphere shifted when Tim Heidecker returned to the stage, accompanied by bassist Eliana Athayde, to perform the poignant “Someone Who Can Handle You” from the 2020 album Fear of Death. The entire band then reunited to perform a full-throttle rendition of "Spaghetti Again," complete with a dramatic visual display of red spaghetti-themed lighting. The crowd was joyously singing along to every line.

Next, the band was joined by Philadelphia native Pat Finnerty, for a moving cover of George Harrison's “Wah-Wah”. The performance was set against a backdrop featuring the iconic Wawa logo, a tribute to the Philadelphia area. Shortly following Pat Finnerty, the city’s Kurt Vile joined the band to play “Sirens of Titan”, a song from High School released in 2022.

As the night reached its climax, one thing became abundantly clear: not a single person in the room had any intention of leaving before the encore. The energy was palpable as the audience remained fully immersed in the magic of the show, soaking up every moment of the unforgettable performance.

Honorable mentions of the night: “Property” and “Hot Piss”

Tim and the band are on tour for the rest of February - catch them.
