104.5 Endless Summer 2018
Radio 104.5 hosted its Endless Summer show on Saturday, Oct. 6, 2018 at Xfinity Live in Philadelphia. Main Stage acts included Bleacher, Nathaniel Rateliff & The Night Sweats, The Wonder Years, Two Feet, and The Unlikely Candidates and on the New Music Discovery Stage was Mo Lowda & The Humble, Castlecomer, Cold Fronts, and Peace and the City Grease.
Two Feet brought a guitar-heavy performance to the main stage. His music pumped up the crowd with complicated guitar riffs and catchy lyrics. Two Feet’s stage presence was very cool and collected, he was in the zone with his guitar in hand.
Cold Fronts joined the Endless Summer show promoting their newest album Fantasy du Jour. “Stayin’ In” was played among others. The song is about getting high and ordering Indian food. The audience seemed to love the premise and the actual song.
The Wonder Years are fresh off their new record, Sister Cities. Radio 104.5 has been playing the band’s music and The Wonder Years used their set at the Endless Summer show as a celebration of that and of their wonderful city of Philadelphia. The crowd was full of The Wonder Years’ fans and the energy was high for their set. Songs off Sister Cities were played as well as older tunes like “There, There” and “Passing Through a Screen Door”.
Nathaniel Rateliff & The Night Sweats followed The Wonder Years on the Main Stage. The lead singer Nathaniel Rateliff told the crowd he chose to play this show over celebrating his birthday. Nathaniel Rateliff is a soulful bluesy singer and his bandmates “The Night Sweats” consist of guitars, keyboard, bass and horns. The high energy band filled their set with whiskey, new songs, old songs, and their first radio hit “Son Of A Bitch”.
Mo Lowda & The Humble closed out the New Music Discovery Stage for the day. The band has only three members, guitarist/singer, bassist, and drummer but they produced enough complicated sounds to be mistaken for a fuller four or five piece band. Mo Lowda has a true rock and roll sound with an updated bluesy touch.
Bleachers closed the event on the Main Stage playing their old radio hits and music from their newer album Gone Now. Gone Now was released over a year ago but the songs are still exciting with the level of passion Jack Antonoff and his band perform them with.
The 104.5 Endless Summer concludes the set of 104.5 Block Parties that inhabit each month of the Summer. The next major 104.5 show will be the radio’s next birthday show.
